Metal Scope (INDIA)Grade 430 (UNS S43000, EN 1.4016) is the most widely used family of Ferritic alloys. It is known for its good corrosion resistance to numerous substance, excellent stress, and formability, coupled with practical mechanical properties.
Grade 430 has excellent resistance to citric and nitric acid, sulfur gases; slightly less corrosion and heat resistant than Types 301, 302, and 304. It can be used in certain chemical applications.
Grade 430 is a magnetic stainless steel. It can be formed using a large variety of roll forming or mild stretch-bending operations, as well as the more common drawing and bending processes. The steel has limited weldability and should not be used in the as welded condition for dynamic or impact loaded structures.www.metalscope.in
Properties
Grade 430 Grade Stainless is one of widely used ”non-hardenable” stainless good physical and mechanical characteristics, about three-quarters the ductility of low carbon strip and inferior to chrome-nickel grades; cost less than chromium-nickel stainless steels. Moda 430Ti/4520 is an alternative to Moda 430/4016 with better formability and weldability for stamping, drawability applications, and complex shapes. It is a medium-chromium ferritic stainless steel that can be used in many mildly corrosive environments. Because of its titanium alloying, Moda 430Ti/4520 can be welded in all dimensions without becoming susceptible to intergranular corrosion. Moda 430Ti/4520 has good corrosion resistance in solutions of many halogen-free organic and inorganic compounds over a wide temperature and concentration range. It can withstand many sufficiently diluted organic and mineral acids depending on the temperature and concentration of the solution. Moda 430Ti/4520 may suffer from uniform corrosion in strong organic and mineral acids, as well as in hot concentrated alkaline solutions.
In aqueous solutions containing halogenides, e.g. chlorides or bromides, pitting and crevice corrosion may occur depending on the halogenide concentration, temperature, pH-value, concentration of oxidizing compounds, and crevice geometry, if applicable. For a short period of time, for instance during cooking of food in stainless steel dishes, Moda 430Ti/4520 can tolerate even relatively high chloride concentrations. The presence of corrosion-inhibiting or accelerating compounds like e.g. transition metal ions or organic compounds may influence the corrosion behavior of Moda 430Ti/4520. Due to its ferritic crystal structure, Moda 430Ti/4520 is not prone to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking.
Moda 430Ti/4520 can be used for indoor applications in rural areas and urban environments where chloride contamination is low. The best material performance is usually reached with the help of adequate design, correct post-weld treatment, and regular cleaning during use (if applicable).
Due to its titanium content, the risk of sensitization to intergranular corrosion is strongly reduced when compared to non-stabilized ferritic grades. Moda 430Ti/4520 can be used in the temperature range in which chromium carbides would precipitate in non-stabilized ferritic grades. Its maximum service temperature in dry air is 800 °C. The presence of other corrosive compounds in the hot environment, like water or sulfur compounds, may reduce the maximum service temperature significantly.

430 stainless steel is a ferritic, straight chromium alloy melted as AOD.
This alloy is non-hardenable but has excellent corrosion resistance at higher temperatures and possesses average mechanical properties. This grade is easily formable making it excellent for large complex geometries. This grade also has excellent finishing qualities making it a great candidate for the appliance industry as dish washer lining, refrigerator panels, and stove trim rings.
430 is in the "Ferritic" group of stainless steels, containing more chromium, no nickel, and carbon from .6% to 35%. It is magnetic and does not respond to heat-treatment. SS 430 has good corrosion resistance and is highly resistant to atmospheric oxidation and strong oxidizing solutions. It can be readily drawn and formed, and it is weldable by common techniques.
